Firefighter Technology

Researchers are trying to come up with a way to fight fires with a "blast of electric current."  Come on now, if fires are started by electricity how in the world can you but a fire out with electric current.  But oh well, they say that the did an experiment where the fire went out entirely.  How?  The researchers connected a 600 watt amplifier to some kind of wand that directs the electrical current into a beam, then created an foot high opening of flame and the wand was able to put the fire out entirely!  Get real, if this come to light it will most definitely be an amazing technology.  I don't see it happening but anything is possible.
